Coordinator

The coordinator Prof. Dr. Axel Haverich, Department of Cardiothoracic, Transplant and Vascular Surgery (HTTG), Hannover Medical School (MHH) will be responsible for the overall management of ESPOIR, including the coordination of all legal, financial and administrative aspects of the project. The MHH avails well-established structures for the management of EU projects, having participated in 30 FP6 projects (4 coordinators) and to date 25 FP7 projects (2 coordinators), not including Marie Curie Actions. Professor Haverich has an extensive and renowned track record in the coordination of large-scale interdisciplinary initiatives in clinical trial settings, both on a national and international scale. He is co-coordinator of the Leibniz Research Labs for Biotechnology and Artificial Organs, chair of the Rebirth Cluster of Excellence “From Regenerative Biology to Reconstructive Therapy” and speaker of the Collaborative Research Centre (SFB) Micro - and Nanosystems in Medicine (see Section 2.2 for details). This guarantees the high-level visibility and scientific excellence necessary to guide the overall coordination of the ESPOIR-project.
